Title : If we loved each other? Short stories - Jean Vautrin - book
Summary :
Keep the trunk, throw away the branches! Obeying this single watchword, to resist the viciousness of the times that is going crazy and to make up for the dearth of souls, I scraped these ten short stories to the bone.
In my head, they hummed from one continent to another the sad and hilarious song of people of all skin types, of all faiths and of all countries - guys, women or kids - agitated by the worries of their personal itches, by the turpitudes of the moment, by unemployment, by childhood, obesity, alcoholism, war, the dramas of married life, or quite simply tormented by a strong desire to fuck.
I kept the tempo of the characters, I preserved the rhythm of their inner madness. I wanted them to swing and sway to the rhythm of their obsessions.
They were, so to speak, greedy for my energy. No doubt because they burst into the imagination of a writer at a moment in the winter of his existence when the inability to love like a young man, his roaring desire to bite into life again, and the approach of death sharpened the acuity of his gaze.
In a word, I awakened what is still stirring within me.
