Title: Missing - Jonathan Valin - book
Summary :
Harry Stoner is hired by Cindy Dorn to find her friend Mason Greenleaf. They have lived together for several years, but before living with a woman, Mason shared the life of a man. His body is found in a hotel room. Suicide by a mixture of alcohol and barbiturates. He also bears signs of beatings. Stoner will try to discover what happened during the four days preceding his "suicide," which will lead him to rub shoulders with the homosexual community and its anxieties: society's view of him, police violence, illness, death, love and hate, revenge, etc. In sober and effective language, Missing in Action deals with a more than delicate subject: AIDS. It also speaks to us of love, tolerance and compassion but also of guilt, anti-gay racism and the fear of disease, all without complacency. Missing in Action, or how to live "harmoniously" in an intolerant and unjust society when one does not "conform to the norms" established by public morality.
