Title : The ghosts of Reykjavik - Arnaldur Indriðason - Book
Summary :
Worried about their granddaughter, whom they know is involved in drug trafficking, a couple calls Konrad, a retired police officer, because the young girl has disappeared. At the same time, a friend of Konrad's tells him about a little girl found drowned in the pond in front of Parliament in 1947. She asks him to help her because the child haunts her dreams. He discovers that the investigation into the little girl's death was conducted in defiance of common sense. When the young drug dealer's body is found, he again questions the police's methods.
Konrad leads both investigations simultaneously. He appears to us as a solid, stubborn, angry character, accustomed to all the tricks of thugs through his childhood with his father. Still grappling with his investigation into his own father's murder, he moves toward the truth.
In a particularly brilliant construction, Indridason creates suspense and anticipation on different and surprising levels. He captivates the reader and keeps them on the edge of their seats with brilliance. In this volume, we can welcome the birth of a new investigator who is endearing, sensitive but violent, and doesn't hesitate to throw a punch. Furthermore, the author introduces us to the very unusual and down-to-earth Icelandic marvel.
