Title : The house of Bernarda Alba blood wedding - Federico Garcia Lorca - book

Summary :

Blood Wedding Lorca was inspired by a news item reported in July 1928. But it was only in 1931 that he began to compose his play. He finished it during the summer of 1932. Premiered on March 8, 1933 in Madrid where it was a great success, acclaimed for months in Buenos Aires, it toured the world and unfortunately its triumph obscured all the rest of Lorca's work, permanently associating his image for the majority with that of an exclusively Andalusian, folkloric author. Not that it lacks beauty: noble architecture, admirable scenes, but it betrays an excessive desire to flatter the public's taste with its declamatory frenzy and easy lyricism. The House of Bernarda Alba Starting from a childhood memory that had greatly impressed him, Lorca had set out to compose a simple "photographic documentary" without "a drop of poetry." But his genius decided otherwise. He made The House of Bernarda Alba, as his brother Don Francisco asserts, perhaps the most poetic of all his plays. By moving the action from the beginning of the 20th century to the eve of the Civil War, the first cracklings of which can be heard, he establishes a burning climate of demands and social unrest that extends to exploited domestics and all dominated women. The incandescent prose burns all the flowers of lyricism. And poetry from then on is called revolt.
