Summary :
In 1429, Etienne de Vignoles, a great captain, known as "La Hire", scoured the French countryside at the head of his rovers and waged war on behalf of King Charles VII.
For many years, most of the kingdom had been under English rule. It was then that a seventeen-year-old peasant girl from Lorraine, named Jehanne, made a name for herself: she claimed to have received from God the mission to deliver Orléans from its occupiers and to have the king crowned in Reims. She succeeded.
Everything would have ended there if the "Maid" had not wanted to continue the war to "drive the English out of France." She failed in front of Paris, then was taken prisoner at Compiègne. La Hire, Gilles de Rais, her fellow soldiers, Guillaume de Lathus, the man who loved her, the ribalds of Mother Catherine, the gypsies, all tried the impossible to free her.
