Title : The Blue Bicycle Volume 7 - Free Cuba - 1955-1959 - Régine Deforges - Book
Summary :
Léa and François Tavernier embark for Cuba with their children. They seek to forget the Indochinese disaster into which they have been so tragically plunged. But adventure catches up with them again on this island, where Fulgencio Batista, the dictator supported by the American mafia, reigns.
Very quickly, Charles, Léa's adopted son, finds himself mixed up in the revolutionary movement. Ardently sought by Batista's police, he manages to join Fidel Castro and the rebellion, who are waiting for their moment in the Sierra Maestra. Mad with worry, Léa sets out to find him and finds him in the company of Ernesto Guevara, who loved her in Argentina (see Black Tango ), and Camilo Cienfuegos, who becomes her lover. Together, they take part in the hard fighting in Santa Clara, then return to Havana as victors.
Meanwhile, François Tavernier, who was first called upon by General Salan and then by General de Gaulle, went to Algiers on a mission with Léon Delbecque, Lucien Neuwirth, and Captain Jean Pouget, whom he had met during the siege of Dien Bien Phu. There, he witnessed the events of May 13, 1958, became concerned about the rise of fascism in Algeria, and learned to distrust General de Gaulle's close entourage, whom he suspected of having wanted to foment a coup d'état to ensure his return to power.
Léa and François finally meet again in Paris in 1959
