Title : Insurrection - Liam O'Flaherty - book
Summary :
Having come to Dublin to marry a young girl, Bartly Madden, a simple peasant from Connemara, would become the hero of the night of the Easter Rising of 1916. Fortuitously involved in the insurgents' fight, he joined Kinsella, the commander of a troop of rebels, and met Stapleton, a poet and anarchist, who would inspire him with the idea of the just fight. Insurrection is the last work in a series of novels that cover the history of Ireland from 1845 to 1922. From his childhood, Liam O'Flaherty professed two passions: hatred of England and respect for the Catholic Church. A love of English literature tempered the first of these passions; socialism, the second. In 1914, these two loyalties clashed. (Jorge Luis Borges) Liam o'Flaherty (1897-1984) is the author of around twenty novels, including The Informer, adapted for the screen by John Ford.
