Do not date these fragments. For me, they are on the margins of passing time, of the chain of time. Even when they evoke a circumstance, an encounter, a reading from long ago, these circumstances, encounters, readings are my present. I take these fragments from the margins of my memory, itself fragmented, incomplete, to bring them not to the center—no one has a center within them, or at least this untraceable center never occupies the same place—but so that they come to light in the living today.
