Title : What I can finally tell you - Ségolène Royal - Book
Summary :
We can see that it was sometimes very violent for you. But you didn't say anything. How do you hold on?
At a time when women's voices are finally being freed, many of them have asked me to express myself about what a woman in politics endures in silence. And more and more men are telling me: speak out for our daughters, our partners, our sisters. So I gave myself the right to speak out, and this right quickly became a duty. The reason for women's silence is the fear of humiliation. It was difficult, and sometimes painful, to write, because I had to relive the ordeals I had stored away in my frozen memory.
But, I was told, having been the first woman in French history to reach the second round of the presidential election, you had to speak out to advance the cause of women and set benchmarks. And what's more, I've learned from my long experience of ecological struggles the similarity between violence against women and that against nature, with predators who mistreat, defile, exploit, too often with impunity. The same vocabulary. The same code of silence. So it's to accelerate action that I decided to make my voice heard, and those who haven't been able to be heard.
Respect for nature, respect for women: what if there were an answer to the two scourges that affect both the planet and political action, dehumanization and uprooting?
