Title : Boreal and ice floes - Paul Emile Victor - book
Summary :
In 1934, explorer Paul-Emile Victor, aboard Commander Charcot's Pourquoi-Pas?, discovered Greenland and the Eskimos of Ammassadik. For fourteen months, he shared the daily life of the Eskimo family who adopted him. In 1936, he crossed the frozen desert of Greenland on foot. Then came Lapland, Alaska, and Adélie Land.
These travel journals, written during his first two expeditions, are full of precise observations and notes. Paul-Emile Victor shows us, with photos and sketches, that these people are among the most "adapted" in the world. But they are also tender and moving pages: the encounter with the bear, the narwhal hunt, the stories of the magicians, and quite simply, the joy of living with fifty dogs, twenty-five Eskimos, and Doumidia, his Eskimo companion.
