Title : In the Spring of Monsters - Philippe Jaenada - book
Summary :
This story is no picnic to summarize. You have to proceed calmly. It's a true story, as they say. An eleven-year-old boy is abducted in Paris one evening in the spring of 1964. Luc Taron. (If you'd rather discover the story in the book, don't read on: stop!) His body is found the next day in a suburban forest. He was murdered for no apparent reason. For more than a month, a madman floods the media and the police with insane letters of demand, signed "The Strangler"; he even addresses vile, diabolical, cruel words to the child's horrified parents. He is finally arrested. He is an ordinary young man, a nurse. He confesses to the murder, is incarcerated, and ostracized from society for the rest of his life. End of story. But of course, if it were that simple, I wouldn't have spent four years writing this big thing (I'm not crazy). In this nascent society that will become ours, everything is murky, everything is artificial. Everyone fakes, lies, cheats. Except for one woman, a point of light. And what we knew is confirmed: the perverts, the madmen, the odious, the monsters are not often those we point to.
