Title : A Childhood with Holy Water - Denise Bombardier - book Summary : Bombardier has no shortage of gift of the gab, cheekiness, and humor. She leaves no one indifferent. Clearly autobiographical, this first novel opens with a sentence worthy of a Mauriac revisited by Antonine Maillet: "I made my first communion in a state of mortal sin." Jérôme Garcin, L'Evènement du jeudi. "There are few testimonies in our literature that give such an attentive account of our relationship with God (and with his representatives here below...). The book is written in a lively manner; sometimes serious, sometimes colorful, it is a quick and easy read. It touches because it comes from the heart of a child always amazed by her surroundings, shy one day, bold the next, never sure of herself, worried and open, in search of her own destiny." Title : The Banquet - Phaedrus - book Summary : In The Banquet, the poet Agathon gives a feast to celebrate his victory in a poetry competition. This is an opportunity for each guest to praise Eros by presenting their vision of love. Following them, Socrates, who claims to be reporting the words of the foreigner Diotima, links love to the desire for immortality that animates all living beings. The praise of love then detaches itself from the sensible world to tend towards a new dimension, that of the Intelligible. It is also Eros that is discussed in the Phaedrus, where Plato distinguishes two kinds of love: vulgar love—selfish, jealous, tyrannical—and honest love, which corresponds to celestial Love. Human souls, which have only glimpsed the world of Ideas before incarnating in a body, retain a fleeting memory of Beauty. It is this search for glimpsed Beauty that would provoke the quest for love. Title : Pedro Páramo - Juan Rulfo - book Summary : It was first read as a "rural" and "peasant" novel, or even as an example of the best "indigenous" literature. In the sixties and seventies, it became a great "Mexican" novel, and then "Latin American." Today, it is said that Pedro Páramo is, quite simply, one of the greatest works of the 20th century, a contemporary classic that critics often compare to Kafka's The Castle and Faulkner's The Sound and the Fury. And for good reason: no one comes out of reading Pedro Páramo unscathed. Like Kafka and Faulkner, Rulfo has managed to stage a fascinating, timeless story of rare beauty: the quest for the father that leads Juan Preciado to Cómala and to meet his destiny, a dizzying journey narrated by a chorus of unusual characters who give us a voice deep in Mexico, beyond the boundaries between memory and oblivion, past and present, the dead and the living. Fifty years after its publication, here at last, according to the original manuscript, is Juan Rulfo's great novel as the author dreamed and conceived it. Title : The difficulty of living - Françoise Dolto - book Summary : Although I am a psychoanalyst, I would like to tell the reader from the outset that they will not find here a work, strictly speaking, of psychoanalysis. Rather, they will read many reflections that will awaken them, I hope, to the understanding of what anyone can hear, without any particular preparation or knowledge. I have always thought, for my part, that the role of the psychoanalyst is not limited to the treatment itself, nor to the selfish capitalization of knowledge, but extends, taking root in their experience of human suffering, beyond their office and their concepts, to their social and public activities, to their daily interventions. The words and writings of the psychoanalyst must be addressed above all to those who are struggling with real life. Their interventions must awaken adults, push them to seek the right attitude to take towards the difficulties of their children. This lively attitude, always alert, attentive, ready to react according to the truth, can prevent troubles, channel exchanges towards creativity and development and not towards dead ends. And prevention is better than cure. EAN: 9782253047834 Used book Book in good condition The book matches the photo

Title : Orange Jam - Safia Haleem - book Summary : Sad? My Mina? [...] One day I asked her mother's permission to take her to the shrine of Chinki Baba. It was a Thursday evening. There were a large number of thugs, but I saw nothing. After saying our prayers at the saint's tomb, I led Mina to a bracelet seller so that she could adorn her forearms. While the seller placed red, green, pink bracelets... on her tender, white forearms, [...] I sat on the ground beside her. [...] I took Mina's hand to lift her up, but she didn't have the strength to stand. She scattered in my arms, like a withered flower. For several days, I was like a madman. Title : Carthage - Daniel Rondeau - book Summary : After his books on Tangier , Alexandria and Istanbul , Daniel Rondeau takes his readers to the heart of history and mythology. Here we are in the silence of Carthage, the city of human sacrifices, the rival of Rome, wiped off the world map by the will of the Roman Scipio Aemilianus in the 2nd century BC. Today, an outlying district of Tunis, Carthage was an African city where the old Orient lived for a long time before becoming one of the capitals of Christianity (in the 3rd and 4th centuries). Here the East and the West have never ceased to speak to each other, to fight, to meet, to love each other. Daniel Rondeau's story pays tribute to the women who carried the city's flag, notably to Elyssa, the founder, who came from Phoenicia in the 7th century BC, and to the men like Hannibal who made it known throughout the world. Carthage is a meditation on history, on the passing of time, on war, on the great fire of the world that never goes out, but also on historians (Herodotus, Thucydides, Polybius) and on literature. The author gives pride of place to Virgil, to Saint Augustine, who lived for a long time in Carthage where he had his first romantic experiences, and to Flaubert who resurrected the vanished city in Salammbô . Carthage is also a topical book on the relations between the East and the West, which will be published at the time of the great debate on the creation of a possible Euro-Mediterranean association. Title : Twilight of the Steppe Gods - Ismail Kadare - book Summary : The narrator, an Albanian student in the USSR, is pleasantly bored in Riga, in a rest home for writers, and he thinks about Lida, with whom he is in love. When the new academic year begins, he returns to the stifling home for foreigners at the Gorky Institute. Like the dust that veils the dim lamps of the home more and more each day, the atmosphere slowly becomes heavier until the final quadruple drama: a smallpox epidemic is declared in Moscow, the Boris Pasternak affair breaks out, diplomatic relations between Albania and Moscow deteriorate to the point of breaking up, and the separation is inevitable between the narrator and Lida. But he does not dare tell her that he will never see her again, he does not admit to her that he is a writer. Like Constantine, he has betrayed the bessa, the given word of the very beautiful Balkan legend which, narrated here, constantly recalled, gives the entire novel a universal resonance. Title : Three Tales - Gustave Flaubert - book Summary : A triple unity - both Trinity and triptych - Flaubert's "Three Tales" evoke a world where the divine presence is as if absent. Dressed in a white linen dress that stopped below the knee, she walked barefoot and bare-armed, her waist arched, with long strides. On her very black hair, tied back in a crown, was placed a double silver twist, representing a thin serpent whose head, raised, held in its jaw a large oval stone, a limpid red.
