Veronika, a young and pretty Slovenian woman, seems to have everything she could wish for in life. Yet, she is not happy. On November 21, 1997, she decides to die. Her suicide attempt leads her to the Villete psychiatric hospital, where she rubs shoulders with real madmen, but also with a seemingly normal population who seem to have taken refuge behind the high walls of the asylum out of fear of the unknown, a desire for security, or weariness of a routine existence. There, Veronika understands that, every minute of our existence, we have the choice between living and giving up, and that, to feel fully alive, she will have to acknowledge the part of madness she carries within her.
