Title : A new day dawns on the great plains - Anne Loreal - Book

Summary :

A brilliant romantic epic where the winds of history blow. Through the destiny of a young French woman who sets out on an evangelistic mission to Indian territory, this novel takes us to the Great Plains of America, the land of pioneers in search of a better life, at the dawn of the Civil War.

Born into a narrow-minded bourgeois family and rejected by her mother, Eugénie de Choisel took the veil at the age of 20 as much out of vocation as out of a thirst for elsewhere, and became Sister Judith. Thanks to her godfather, Father Fournerie, she realized her dream by accompanying him on an evangelistic mission in the American West. As she embarked for the New World, she met, among the stream of migrants fleeing poverty, Julian Eckermann, a German who awakened new and forbidden feelings in her. He himself was attracted to this young woman of radiant beauty. Arriving in New Orleans, the novice brutally encountered the world of slavery and experienced the first tremors of the Civil War. In Saint Louis, she crossed paths with Julian Eckermann again. Her faith and strength of character helped her keep a cool head in the face of this man who troubled her so much. Once again, their paths diverged. In the spring of 1861, the missionaries settled in Osage territory in Kansas, where the nun was in charge of the children's schooling. But raids by secessionist militiamen plunged the missionaries into the heart of the war that had just broken out. Sister Judith did not emerge unscathed from this conflict, which took her godfather away from her. Believing herself abandoned by God, she violently rejected her faith and enlisted as a nurse in Ulysses Grant's Confederate troops. Against all odds, she met Julian Eckermann again during the bloody Battle of Vicksburg, which would end the Civil War. Will the young woman be able to listen to her heart this time?
