This edition of the Pensées aims to be as faithful as possible to Pascal's intentions, in particular by establishing the text, entirely reread from the manuscript, and by the notes. These present, by quoting them in extenso, which is an original feature of this edition, the entirety of the readings on which Pascal's reflection is based. The Pensées are not a posthumous book, they are the papers of a dead man, of a man who knows and who believes at the moment when death interrupts the Apology of the Christian religion. To say what this man was, such is the meaning of Michel Le Guern's edition which was crowned by the Critical Edition Prize.
