Summary :
Johnny Keats is an Artificial Intelligence modeled after an old poet from Old Earth. He wants to escape the TechnoCenter, invest his entire consciousness in his body, become a full-fledged human, and leave for Hyperion. It's enough to get him assassinated. But someone must want him well at the TechnoCenter: he receives a spare body. This time, he asks Lamia to ensure his protection; and for added security, he wires her before being killed. When he revives, Schrön's disk, implanted in the young woman, puts him in contact with her: all he has to do is sleep and dream. Unfortunately, his protector finds herself in great danger on Hyperion; all they can hope for is to meet in the infosphere. However, someone seems ready to help them—as if Johnny were some essential cog in a grand design conceived on the scale of eternity.
