To explore the life of Jules Vendange is to unfold the life of a young man from Auvergne, who, at the end of September 1913, arrived at the Teacher Training College with his first long breeches. But his training was brutally interrupted by his mobilization. Incorporated into a unit of soldiers in the Aisne, he returned from the trenches with one leg missing but a conscience added. Suffice it to say that in 1919, like his surviving comrades, he was no longer the same; no longer the desire to stand at attention in front of the director, the teacher, the officers, to obey, and to apply often absurd regulations... just the desire to obtain the sacrosanct Béhesse (Higher Certificate), which he would not obtain, following a "mutiny" of student teachers resistant to the discipline and pedagogy taught.
No matter, the vocation is there...
