Title : The painting by the Flemish Master - Arturo Pérez-Reverte - book
Summary :
On the canvas, painted five centuries ago, a lord and a knight are playing chess, watched from the background by a woman in black. A curious detail: the painter executed this painting two years after the mysterious death of one of the players and wrote the inscription "Who took the knight?", also translated as "Who killed the knight?"
All this would only arouse the passions of collectors if violent deaths did not seem to continue the game in suspense on the canvas. And this is how history, painting, mathematical logic multiply the dimensions of a plot itself as dizzying as chess...
A work of astonishing originality, translated into many countries and awarded the Grand Prix de littérature policière in France in 1993.
