William IX, Duke of Aquitaine and Gascony (1071-1127), the oldest medieval poet, composed the first troubadour songs in the langue d'oc. His verses deal with courtly love. He defined the rules of the "trobar" (sung poem) and was imitated in northern France. Occitan, of which Gascon is one of the four components: a language of culture. Gascon is presented to you here, not by the ladleful, but by the teaspoonful.

The first line consists of one word - just one. The second line takes that first word and adds a second. And so on, line after line, until you have a complete sentence, of which you will understand every detail perfectly.
