The years 1915 and 1916 were decisive for Henri Barbusse.
It was in 1915 that he experienced Le Feu in the trenches of Soissonnais, Argonne and Artois, as a squad soldier, then as a stretcher-bearer in the 231st Infantry Regiment where he had enlisted. It was in 1916, during his evacuation to the hospitals, that he wrote his book. This one, published by Éditions Flammarion at the end of November, immediately won the Prix Goncourt. Considered worldwide as one of the masterpieces of war literature, it is one of the truest and most moving testimonies of front-line combatants.
Le Feu is followed by Carnet de guerre which allows us to go back to the very sources of the creation of Henri Barbusse's epic novel.
