Summary :

1936. In the courtyard of a Galician prison, shortly after Franco's coup d'état, a young anarchist painter uses a carpenter's pencil to draw the famous Porch of Glory in the Cathedral of Santiago de Compostela. He imbues the various biblical characters with the gestures and faces of his fellow prisoners, all condemned, like him, to be murdered during one of those famous night walks - the sordid summary executions organized by the fascists. The Civil Guard Herbal, responsible for monitoring political prisoners, secretly follows the progress of the drawing and, the evening when, on the orders of his superiors, he shoots the artist in the head, he cannot help but pick up the pencil. He is far from suspecting that each time he places it on his ear, it will speak to him, as if in his innermost being, with the voice of the victim. From then on, the fascists' henchman will have to learn to live with this other person who lives within him. Herbal obeys in spite of himself and lets the pencil write the chronicle of an unforgettable passion that will lead the two protagonists to pass through prisons, death trains, and internment camps. Thus is born a small masterpiece of finesse and sensitivity that rises like a song of hope amidst the horrors of war.
