As the 2003 Avignon Festival becomes mired in a strike by intermittent workers, a famous actress returns to her hometown after a ten-year absence. There, she had a passionate romance with the director of a theater at the festival, whom she left to pursue a career. The latter is staging a play by an unknown author, a sort of accursed poet who died in obscure circumstances.
