Title : The Blue Bicycle Volume 8 - Algiers, White City - 1959-1960 - Régine Deforges - Book
Summary :
Fifteen years after the end of World War II, Léa, the intrepid heroine of The Blue Bicycle, returns to France. In the meantime, the turbulent post-war world had taken her from Argentina to revolutionary Havana, via a chaotic Indochina.
However, at the end of the 1950s, France was not at peace; the war raging in Algeria was shaking the entire country. General de Gaulle then tasked François Tavernier with sounding out, across the Mediterranean, a worried population and an army tempted by a putsch. Remaining in Paris, Léa and Charles, her adopted son, gradually took the side of independence and engaged, alongside the "suitcase carriers," in dangerous operations to support Algerian militants.
As the January 1960 rebellion pushes Algiers to the brink of collapse, Léa must join François to escape the suspicions of the DST. Here they are thrown into the heart of dramatic events which, once again, will put them to the test, testing their convictions as much as their love.
