Summary :
1950s. In a small town in Norrland, Hans Olofson, a teenager raised by a boorish, alcoholic father, loses his only two true friends. Devastated, Hans decides to fulfill one of their dreams: to travel to Zambia, following in the footsteps of a Swedish missionary.
1969. Africa fascinates and frightens him. In the young, independent republic of Zambia, gripped by violence, Hans encounters colonizers trapped in their racism and obedient Black people who cultivate hatred of whites. Hans agrees to help an English woman run her egg farm, then takes over the business for himself. Hoping to escape the spiral of racial violence, he attempts to put his ideals of social and human justice into practice.
The Eye of the Leopard , published in 1990 in Sweden, adds to the list of novels about Africa (such as Children's comedy , The Son of the Wind And Kennedy's Brain ) by the committed writer Henning Mankell, who divides his time between Sweden and Mozambique.
Henning Mankell was born in 1948. His work has been awarded numerous literary prizes. In addition to the famous "Wallander series," he is the author of novels about Africa and social issues, plays, and children's books.
Born in Sweden, Agneta Ségol For many years, he divided his professional life between journalism, translation and teaching. In 2000, his daughter Marianne Ségol-Samoy joined her in translation after having been an actress. They often work in pairs (among others for texts by Astrid Lindgren, PO Enquist, Håkan Nesser, Henning Mankell) while each keeping to their own field. Marianne that of theater (Jonas Hassen Khemiri, Sara Stridsberg), Agneta that of children's literature (Stefan Casta, Annika Thor, Per Nilsson).
