Title : The Imaginary of the Global Conspiracy - Aspects of a Modern Myth - Pierre-André Taguieff - book
Summary :
We live in an era where the imaginary of the global conspiracy seems to merge with the political imaginary as it has become globalized. It is not surprising to note that belief in conspiracy gives the illusion of explaining or being able to explain certain events that appear incomprehensible or unintelligible. This is its main function. This is the great "usefulness" of what is commonly called "conspiracy theory" : to respond to a demand. Believing in conspiracy means being able to give meaning to what seems devoid of it, and which is worrying. However, with the chaotic evolution linked to globalization, obscurity seems to increase with uncertainty, which causes dismay and fuels anxieties. Hence the intensification of the demand for meaning, and the extension of the domain of conspiracy. An indefinite extension, without an assignable term. Because the suspicion of conspiracy is fabricated with what Tocqueville called the "big commonplaces that rule the world."
