Title : I am made of their absence - Tim Dup - Book
Summary :
"I see guilt being born in my dreams . It always takes the same appearance, that of a thrush, whose wings are not made of feathers, but of dried leaves and flowers . The petals fall one after the other, each time the bird tries to fly away. It cannot do so, begs me to help it. No matter how much I tell it that it does not have the right wings, it persists in leaping, and falls back to the ground each time, its flowery wings vanishing around it. In the sky it tries to reach, there is only thick blackness ."
Pierre and his partner Victoria have moved into the family home in Roseville-sur-Mer, Normandy. While waiting for a purchase offer, they rearrange the rooms, lighten the walls, and live in the place, searching for a reassuring home. Pierre loves living on this coast, in this maritime province governed by idleness and the hours of the tides. From this refuge, he almost forgets the scar deep in his heart. Yet a storm is approaching. Henri, his father, is back, and memories and names resurface. Sophie, his mother, who died when he was just a child; Suzanne and Théodore, his grandparents, whom they raised him with; and then there is Vincent, his uncle, and his cousin Esther: so many faces that today bring him back to this terrible tragedy. While the sand seems to hold back the sea, Pierre tries once again, in Victoria's arms, to make light triumph over shadows. So that absence may finally be silent.
Both lively and delicate, Tim Dup's first novel explores the issue of domestic violence with nuance, while taking the reader back to the universal home of his childhood.
