Title: Flesh and Blood - Michael Cunningham - book
Summary :
Constantin Stassos, a Greek immigrant, has little in common with Mary, a beautiful Italian-American married during the great utopia of the 1950s.
A real estate developer based in Newark, New Jersey, he will build his success on the backs of those more unfortunate than him and turn out to be a violent man. Mary is a frustrated woman, who has trouble accepting the narrowness of everyday life. Three children are born: Susan, the eldest, has a relationship with her father that borders on incest. Billy, an emotional, vulnerable boy, is misunderstood by his father, particularly when he discovers his homosexuality. Zoe, the youngest, will go to live in Manhattan where she indulges in drugs and then, pregnant by a passing lover, a Black man, is adopted by a transvestite, Cassandra, who will help her raise her son. Beneath the respectable facade, the scandal is absolute.
