Title: Autopsy of a bookseller - François Darnaudet - book
Summary :
In May 1953, Chester Himes arrived in Arcachon with his current mistress, Willa. His friend and translator, Yves Malartic, had lent him his vacation home. Chester spent two months there. His goal was twofold: to have a good time with Willa and to "find a sensational ending" to his novel, The Third Generation. In June 2015, second-hand bookseller Roger Sollers, known as "Soso," fell from the third floor of his apartment in Andernos.
His partner, Béa, is convinced that this death is linked to an unknown manuscript by Chester Himes that Soso allegedly unearthed at a garage sale in the Arcachon Bay. According to her, it was the first version of The Third Generation abandoned by Chester Himes. The manuscript has obviously disappeared.
