A self-taught Lapp, born at the beginning of the century into a family of reindeer herders, Andreas Labba became a novelist in his late sixties thanks to Swedish friends, including Dag Hammarskjöld, the UN Secretary-General. Thus was born "Anta," typed in Lapp, stroke by stroke, on an old typewriter, before being translated into Swedish; then "Anta and Marie," written directly in Swedish.
