Title : 7 Ways to Be Happy - Or the Paradoxes of Happiness - Luc Ferry - book
There is a fundamental asymmetry between unhappiness and happiness. Unlike the former, which is unfortunately easy to identify (serious illness, bereavement of a loved one, accident of life, etc.), the latter is indefinable.
No one can ever be absolutely certain of what will make them happy for a long time – money, love, social success, knowledge: everything that brings us joy can turn into its opposite.
Contrary to what the happiness merchants claim, being happy depends infinitely less on working on oneself than on the state of the world and the fate of those we love. I am convinced that illusions make us sick, lucidity alone opens paths to health, and, if philosophy may have saved my life, it is certainly on this path.
In contrast to the recipes for a so-called "sovereign good" by oneself alone, what I wanted to share with my reader here is a joyful deconstruction of illusions at the same time as an analysis of what in our lives allows for real moments of intensity and serenity.
